Lieutenant Governor Honours Outstanding Seniors

Winners Of Ontario Senior Achievement Awards Announced

Ontario is recognizing the outstanding contributions seniors make to their communities.

Today, in a ceremony held at Queen’s Park, 20 seniors were honoured with a 2009 Ontario Senior Achievement Award.     

The award recognizes Ontarians over the age of 65 who have made outstanding contributions to their community in the following categories:

  • Arts/Literature
  • Community Service/Voluntarism
  • Education
  • Environment/Science
  • Fitness/Recreation/Sport
  • Humanitarian Activities
  • Keeping History Alive

The Ontario Senior Achievement Award is the province’s highest recognition for seniors.

  • The first Ontario Senior Achievement Awards were presented in 1986.
  • Ontario communities also recognize the contributions of seniors through the Senior of the Year Awards and Veteran Appreciation Days during Seniors’ Month in June.
  • The number of seniors in Ontario will double to 3.5 million over the next 20 years.
