dRAFT Standards and Guidelines for Consultant Archaeologists

Summary of how the draft Standards and Guidelines for
Consultant Archaeologists has changed between 2006 and 2009

The Ministry of Culture released the draft Standards and Guidelines for Consultant Archaeologists (2006) in fall 2006. Since that time, many archaeologists and other stakeholders have attended information sessions and meetings with ministry staff to discuss the document, and many more have submitted comments in writing. Many consultant archaeologists in Ontario have been using the 2006 draft Standards and Guidelines to guide their work, and have provided feedback to the ministry based on that experience.

The feedback we’ve received from archaeologists, the development industry, other stakeholders and representatives of Aboriginal communities has been invaluable in helping to shape the revised draft Standards and Guidelines for Consultant Archaeologists (2009).

To help guide you through the key general, technical and format changes that were made, we have prepared a summary of changes from the 2006 draft to the current (2009) one.
