As a part of the Annual Survey of Public Libraries, we ask public libraries to measure activities in their libraries during a typical week in November.  Libraries are requested to record specific statistical information during their typical week for each library service point. The information to be recorded includes:

• circulation,
• in-library materials use,
• use of electronic information resources,
• reference inquiries, and
• visits to the library (both walk-in and electronic)
• use of public library wireless connection.

As in previous years, please select a week in November for your typical week that has no holidays, as a week with holidays could affect data.  Your collection of typical week data is an important part of the annual survey, and it will also be required by municipalities to report library measures for the Municipal Performance Measures Program.

We have clarified instructions for the use of a library’s wireless connection and noted that number of people using library workstations should include download stations such as Overdrive, but otherwise the form and its instructions remain the same.
