The Status of Ontario’s Artists Act recognizes the importance of Ontario’s artists and how much they contribute to our economy and enjoyment of life. [See Bill 187, Schedule 39]

Recognition of Ontario’s artists

The arts are not a ‘frill’ but an enormous part of our economy and how we enjoy life.   The Act formally recognizes the enormous effect artists have on Ontario’s economy and quality of life. 

Celebrate the Artist Weekend

The Act declares the first weekend in June as Celebrate the Artist Weekend.

This provides the province with an opportunity to encourage Ontario’s towns and cities to set aside a weekend every year to formally honour artists and their work.

The first Celebrate the Artist Weekend occurs June 7-8, 2008.

The Act outlines ways the Ontario government is committed to promoting the well-being of artists in Ontario. This includes providing training, professional development and marketing opportunities.
