BOOSTS HERITAGE CONSERVATION

McGuinty Government Supports Provincial Heritage Organization

News

Heritage conservation has become so popular in communities across Ontario that the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario has almost doubled its branches to 20 across the province.

This growth has taken place since the province strengthened the Ontario Heritage Act in 2005.

To help support the unprecedented growth in local heritage conservation efforts, the province is providing $50,000 to the conservancy to assist with:

  • Training volunteers about protecting heritage properties
  • Developing a new financial reporting system and
  • Enhancing the conservancy’s website.

QUOTES

“We are supporting the efforts of communities across Ontario to protect their heritage and share it with future generations,” said Culture Minister Aileen Carroll at the Heritage Conservation Conference, held in Collingwood.

“The Ontario Heritage Act has raised the expectations for heritage conservation in Ontario, and more people want to get involved in protecting our historical buildings and sites by forming new branches of the ACO,” said ACO President Catherine Nasmith.
