MCGUINTY GOVERNMENT INVESTING IN BRANT COUNTY HERITAGE
New Investment To Help Preserve Historical Artifacts

TORONTO — The McGuinty government is helping the Brant Museums and Galleries Association to preserve and protect historical artifacts through a grant of $14,400, Minister of Culture Caroline Di Cocco announced today at the Brant Museum and Archives.

“Today is International Museums Day, and this grant highlights the important community role museums play,” Di Cocco said. “It also underlines the vital role the Ontario Trillium Foundation continues to play in preserving Ontario’s heritage for future generations.”

The government is providing $14,400 to the Brant Museums and Galleries Association to purchase environmental monitoring and other equipment, and to develop an emergency preparedness kit.

“Supporting organizations that protect our history and community legacies is important for all Ontarians,” said Janet Passmore, Ontario Trillium Foundation Board Member. “This grant will help members of the Brant Museums and Galleries Association care for their collections, improve the quality of their exhibits and, if necessary, respond to emergencies.”

Brant Museums and Galleries Association is a network of twelve museums, heritage organizations and galleries located in Brant County, the City of Brantford and Six Nations. The association’s members partner on initiatives and share information and resources.

“The protection and preservation of heritage artifacts is a priority here in Brantford, the County of Brant and Six Nations/New Credit,” commented Dave Levac, MPP for Brant. “This money will help the association respond proactively to some current challenges.”

The Ontario Trillium Foundation is an agency of the Ministry of Culture and receives annual funding from Ontario’s charity casino initiative. The Ontario Trillium Foundation builds healthy and vibrant communities throughout Ontario by strengthening the capacity of the volunteer sector through investments in community-based initiatives.
