PROMOTING EARTH ART AROUND THE WORLD
McGuinty Government Supporting New Art Exhibit At Royal Botanical Gardens

Earth Art, an innovative environmental art exhibit at the Royal Botanical Gardens (RBG) featuring the work of renowned Canadian and international artists, opens tomorrow and Ontario is helping attract new audiences from around the world to see the show.

The Government of Ontario is investing $100,000 to help the RBG promote Earth Art to art and culture fans and eco-conscious travellers across Canada, the United States and abroad.

The funding is being provided through the Ontario Cultural Attractions Fund, which helps develop, promote and present unique events and exhibitions. The fund also helps boost cultural tourism across the province by investing in cultural programs that help attract new audiences.

“Earth Art will attract more visitors to the Royal Botanical Gardens,” said Culture Minister Aileen Carroll. “Ontario is proud to support this innovative art show by helping promote it to audiences around the world.”

“The Royal Botanical Gardens is a major cultural tourist attraction in this region,” said Ancaster Dundas Flamborough Westdale MPP Ted McMeekin. “This investment will help bring in new fans to enjoy the beauty of the garden, explore the area and help boost the local economy.”

“The Earth Art project is destined to be a unique attraction for Ontario this summer. OCAF is pleased to support an enhanced marketing campaign to help make that happen,” said Dr. Murray Frum, Chair of the Ontario Cultural Attractions Fund.

 “This investment from the Ontario government enables the Royal Botanical Gardens to develop and promote such significant cultural and artistic endeavors as Earth Art and attract new visitors,” says Mark Runciman, Executive Director, Royal Botanical Gardens.  “We are pleased that Earth Art has generated great interest internationally, among media and visitors to the Gardens.”

• The Earth Art exhibit will showcase 10 celebrated and international artists from Canada, Germany, USA, UK, Mexico, France and Belgium.
• The RBG includes five gardens and four nature sanctuaries on over 2,700 acres of cultivated gardens and natural lands.
• The RBG is the one of the world’s largest botanical gardens.
• Ontario’s culture sector generates almost $20 billion of the province’s Gross Domestic Product.
